| What are Pheromones? Pheromones is a set of chemicals that are created by a living thing such as an animal or a human that can transmit a silent message to another member of the same sex but the species has to be the same. You can’t have a lion transmitting pheromones to a male dog. There are different kinds of Pheromones such as alarm, food trail, sex and any thing else that affects the species behavior or physiology. Mainly insects are the most document species, bees in particular. Plants and vertebrates can also transmit through the pheromones. Mammals and reptiles pheromones can be found by the vomeronasal organ or Jacobson’s organ, which is located between the mouth and the nose. Some are easily detected through the olfactory membranes. Other insects like the Japanese beetle and gypsy moth can be used to trap the scents for such purposes as disrupting mating and creating confusion.
The word pheromone was first introduced into the public in 1959, it is a Greek work meaning to transport and to stimulate. They used the term in relation to these specific chemicals in the body. There are many different types of pheromones such as Epideictic, Primer, territorial, Trail and Sex. Each has their own specific definition that fits to the insect or animal way. These are primal yet effective ways to seduce the opposite sex . It is subtle and private, only the two involved are the ones that can smell it. |
